Introduction

When customers want to buy a relatively small number of trays from us to trial them and have a problem in seeding them without spending a lot of money to gear up with their present seeder we suggest supplying them one of our simple plate seeders. This is also ideal for the small propagators such as people growing their own plants.

This machine is simplicity itself with two plates one above the other both with the appropriate number of holes in for the tray being seeded. The top plate has a hole size and thickness that is appropriate to the type of seed being sown, for example a large hole with a thick plate for a coated seed and a thinner plate with a smaller hole for, say, a cabbage or cauliflower seed. The lower plate has a much larger hole and while the top plate is being charged with seed the two plates are not aligned but then the plate seeder is put on top of the tray to be seeded with a seed in each cavity in the top plate then the two plates are lined up at which time the seed falls through from the top plate through the bottom plate and into the cell of the tray. The following photographs show this sequence.

Experienced operators with good seed can run these machines at 200-300 trays per hour once they have been filled and dibbled.

This seeder is ONLY suitable for round seed.

We can also supply a simple plate dibble to make the depressions in each cell as well.

We do not sell this machine commercially so if you are interested in the machine but not the trays please go to the supplier’s website which is http://www.semeart.com.br or email Pedro at pedro@semeart.com.br. They are in Brasil and make a good simple seeder/
