New for 2020, this 32 cell container holds 32 individual 50mm diameter Ellepots, and complements the 006Global tray introduced last year. This propagation container was designed to address the issue of fruit tree propagation in South Africa, but has wide-reaching applications across the globe. And because the containers nest so closely together, this really helps to keep global shipping costs to a minimum.

A 50mm wide Ellepot is the perfect size to start propagating many fruit trees, and also larger landscape trees. It is also an excellent substitute for those trees grown in plastic bags – even though the container volume is typically smaller. This is because the root system is far superior than when grown in bags, meaning a smaller root system can support a much larger tree. This tree is also highly likely to transplant better and grow quicker once planted out too.

This size of Ellepot can then be easily stepped up to a Jumbo Ellepot (Such as 100mm or 120mm). A hole is drilled in the larger Ellepot and the 50mm is simply slotted in, making stepping up a very quick and efficient operation.

One of the key concepts with the Ellepot/Proptek system is how compatible with automation it is. Serious time and money efficiency savings can be made throughout the whole growing process, right from filling, to sorting & grading, and to shipping out of the door.

The optimum height Ellepot for this container is 3.5″ (90mm); though Ellepots taller than this can be used if required.

The Ellepot supports the growing media and holds it together while the roots are growing, meaning they can be moved or transplanted far sooner than in traditional systems. The Ellepot inserts are held in such a way that also allows enough air movement for great aeration and drainage and fantastic ‘air pruning’ of the root system. The tray also keeps the plants raised off the ground away from standing water to allow air to better flow around the base to help air pruning. This also prevents the plants from sitting in water, thereby reducing water logging and disease.

Once the trees are grown to the desired size, the Ellepot insert can be removed, packaged and sent to the field or customer without any plastic leaving the nursery, helping to ensure containers never go missing. This also helps with disease management, as you aren’t bringing any contaminated containers back to the nursery.

1 Full truck loads can fit more trays per pallet as a dedicated full size 53ft lorry is used for delivery. For partial truck loads, we cannot guarantee the height of the lorry, so pallets must fit into all commercial freight vehicles. If arranging your own transport, please advise us at the earliest opportunity on the internal height of your vehicle.

I think they [Proptek’s propogation containers] are one of the best root pruning pots out there.  For one thing they are in a 10×20″ format which allows us to be able to maximize our bench space, where other types of air pruning pots leave a lot of open bench space.

I also like the way the plant is easily pulled from the pot and then easily put it back into the pot when checking the roots.  I like the injection mold type of pot instead of cheaper thermoformed pots.  They last much longer and are definitely worth the price point.  I think these pots should be more widely used in the industry, therefore making better roots on plants for the whole industry.

The Tall Pot is a system, not just a container. We designed our 4 acres of facility around the pot and tray and saved thousands of dollars on benching because we only needed rails. The 8 cell tray naturally saves labor by reducing repetitive walking and is conducive to mechanized pot filling and conveyors.

On top of that, the injection molded pots and frames are durable and long lasting. We steam sterilize them and expect at least a 6 year life. The best feature is the root pruning and root architecture caused by the pot. There is absolutely no circling of roots and the mass of roots in the pot is amazing.

Our citrus trees take off and come into production sooner than any other pot used in citrus. Choosing this container was the best decision we ever made.

I have used the 8 deep pot in frames since 2010 when I had the opportunity to closely participate in its design. The creation of this pot in frame marks a pivoting moment in the conception of modern professional citrus nurseries around the world. Technically speaking the pots are ideal for root development with adequate depth associated with internal ridges which direct the roots down and windows that cause air pruning enabling even more root mass to develop.
